Ordering
How do I know how many I need?
One per guest, plus a few spare for last-minute seating changes. For a 100-guest wedding most couples order 100 to 110.
Can I see the paper before I order 100 of them?
Yes, and we would rather you did. A sample set of three finished cranes lets you try the paper against your linen and stationery before you commit to the full number.
Can you match my wedding colors?
Often, yes. Send your palette or a photo of your invitation and we will tell you which papers come closest, or whether we can source something nearer. Custom colors are quoted individually.
What if my guest count changes?
Tell us as early as you can. You can change or cancel free of charge within 24 hours of ordering — 48 hours for bulk and custom orders — as long as folding has not started. After that we usually cannot reduce the number, because the papers have already been cut. We can often still add to an order that is in production, so ask us either way.
Making & lead time
How long does it take before my order ships?
Allow about 2 to 4 weeks for making, depending on the quantity and the papers involved. When we already have pieces folded in your color we can ship sooner. If your date is close, write to us before you order — we will look at it as a team and tell you honestly whether we can make it.
Is everything handmade?
Most of it, yes. Every crane is folded by hand from Japanese washi — never die-cut or machine-pressed — and every order is finished and packed by hand, which is why a set of one hundred takes the time it takes.
Not every part is made in our studio. The papers, the printed cards and the glass come from Japanese makers we buy from, and we fold, assemble and finish from there. Where a piece is only partly made by hand, its own page says what is done by hand and what is not.
Do the colors vary?
Slightly. Washi and yuzen papers are produced in limited runs, so shades shift between batches and our available colors change over time. If exact consistency matters, order everything in one go.
Shipping & delivery
Where do you ship?
Worldwide from Japan, with tracking. Most orders go to the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Europe and Australia.
How long does delivery take?
Standard tracked delivery takes about 10 to 15 business days from Japan. EMS Express takes about 3 to 7. Both include tracking. Delivery time is counted from the day we ship, so add the making time above when you are working back from your date.
Will I pay customs or duties?
You should not have to. Our shipping rates are set to cover estimated import duties and taxes, so nothing further should be asked of you on arrival. If a carrier does request a payment before delivery, contact us before paying and send us the notice — we will reimburse you in full.
The pieces themselves
Do the name cards come with the holders?
No — the cranes are sold on their own, and name cards are not included. We are preparing printed name cards to sell alongside them. If you would like to know when they are ready, write to us and we will tell you.
How big are they?
Each crane is about 9 cm from beak to tail and about 6 cm tall, and sits roughly 5 cm across the wings — a little wider or narrower depending on how far you open them. That is enough to hold a standard place card upright without hiding it.
Can guests take them home?
Yes — that is how most couples use them. The crane holds a place card during dinner and leaves with the guest afterwards, which is why many people count them as both the place card and the favor.
Larger orders
Do you offer volume pricing?
Yes, from 50 pieces. See For planners & venues for the structure, or ask us for a quote.
I am a planner or venue. Do you have trade terms?
