Lavender Washi Origami Crane Place Card Holders

A lavender crane at every seat, holding your guest's name. Each one is folded by hand from Japanese yuzen washi — soft purple blossoms on white, traced with gold — and holds a place card, an escort card, a menu or a table number.

Lavender is the color couples choose when they want soft without pink. It sits beautifully with white, silver and pale grey, and reads clearly against a dark tablecloth where blush would disappear. For a spring or early summer table, it is the one guests comment on.

Yuzen washi is patterned sheet by sheet, so the pattern falls differently on every bird. No two cranes in your set will be identical. Up close you can see the fibres in the paper and the way the gold catches as the light moves across the table.

Most guests take theirs home at the end of the night. A place card holder usually ends up in the bin; this one does not.

They are made for weddings, but they work anywhere a table needs names — a rehearsal dinner, an anniversary, a christening, a long dinner at home, a private room in a restaurant.
