Product details

A pale blue crane at every seat, holding your guest's name. Each one is folded by hand from Japanese yuzen washi — powder blue, scattered with white cherry blossom, touched with gold — and holds a place card, an escort card, a menu or a table number.

If you are still looking for your something blue, this is a quiet way to do it. It sits on the table rather than under your dress, and every guest gets one.

Yuzen washi is patterned sheet by sheet, so the blossoms fall differently on every bird. No two cranes in your set will be identical. Up close you can see the fibres in the paper and the way the gold shifts as the light moves across the table.

Most guests take theirs home at the end of the night. A place card holder usually ends up in the bin; this one does not.

They are made for weddings, but they work anywhere a table needs names — a rehearsal dinner, an anniversary, a christening, a long dinner at home, a private room in a restaurant.

The meaning

Why a crane at every seat

In Japan the crane is a long-standing symbol of long life and good fortune, and folded cranes are a familiar sight at weddings here. Placing one at each seat is a way of passing that wish down the table, guest by guest.

Each crane is folded from a single square of yuzen washi. No cutting, no glue. The card rests between the wings and the bird holds it upright on its own.

In the box & care

Your set arrives folded and cushioned, ready to place on the table. The cranes are grouped into protective bags before they are packed for the journey, so they arrive holding their shape.

Name cards: not included — sold separately (coming soon)

Keep them dry. Washi is paper, and a glass that sweats will mark it.

If a wing has softened in transit, press it back into shape with a fingertip.

Each crane is folded from one square of paper, so no two carry the pattern in the same place.

What people say

In their own words.

A wedding at the Japanese gardens

★★★★★

“Thank you so much for helping to make my daughter's wedding absolutely perfect!! The paper cranes were a huge hit, and the perfect compliment to her celebration at the Japanese gardens. You were truly a pleasure to work with, and I could not be more pleased with our cranes!! From the way you went out of your way to get special patterns to match her wedding theme colors, to making sure we had them on time (all the way from Japan!!), to the quality of the packing and the cranes themselves - flawless!! Thanks again for everything.”

Aileen · Etsy review, August 2025
